Higher Ground Neighborhood Development Corporation (Higher Ground) is a multi-service non-profit 501(c)(3) organized to provide supplemental services to children, families, schools and school districts. Our services are designed to provide the needed scaffolding a child needs to navigate school and classroom performance as they develop into young adults. In times such as these Higher Ground has stepped in to fill the gaps poor parenting, poverty, and under development in poor communities of Color that find themselves falling through. In working with our children in a restorative justice approach.... We build resilience!
Higher Ground offers the following services in the school setting: results based cognitive behavioral health support, developmental recess that focuses on play, comprehensive after-school programs that strenthen academic concepts, service projects that build and develop our surrounding communities, cultural enrichment classes that help ground children's family culture with history, and professional development around various subjects.
We also support our larger school community through our professional development project called Strong Roots. This projects gives classroom teachers practical plans for transforming behavior and developing youngsters in the classroom setting within 8 weeks guaranteed. As a part of this project teacher coaching, grade level collaborative support services, and school based behavior plans are delivered giving a teacher a blue print to behavioral transformation. We help teachers teach!
Higher Ground supports neighborhoods by working with the city projects to extend service learning opportunities for local youth as well as special projects that focus on green jobs workforce development projects over the summer. Supporting County projects closes the triangle of support that is school, city, and county by providing technical assistance and community building opportunities.
