Here is a list of our most frequently asked questions during program start up at the begining of the school year. Below are their answers:

  1. If my child was on the waiting list last year will they get in this year?
    1. Only completed applications will be accepted. If you turn in within the “open enrollment” period timeline you may get a spot within the after school program.

  1. When will I know if my child got in the program?
    1. To be considered for enrollment you must complete the HG Enrollment Process.  Packets are available in the school office. Enrollment is on a priority driven. All applications received by Wednesday will be processed and parents will either receive an “Acceptance Letter” or “Wait List” letter by Thursday and an orientation will be scheduled for Friday.  Any applications received after Wednesday will be processed the following week.  Parents must attend an orientation before their child can start the program.  New students can only start the program on Mondays.  Students not selected will be placed on a waiting list and be contacted when space is available.
  2. How do you choose what students get in the program?
    1. This is NOT a “first come, first served” program! This means,  participants in program are chosen based on academic need, socio-economic conditions, ELL and ELD distinctions, students receiving transitional services and students with siblings already enrolled in the program based on the afore-mentioned priorities.   Can my kinder get into the program without a sibling?

      4. Why was my application denied?

    1. Applications will be denied and returned for the following: incomplete dates, signatures, missing documentation, information, release of liability, medical, etc. Only completed application will be accepted and enrolled based on priority.
  1.     What is the waitlist process?
    1. Every Wednesday, applications will be collected and on Thursday either “Acceptance” or “Wait List” letters will be distributed to children in their classrooms.  If your child receives an Acceptance letter it will include the date of the next available Parent/Guardian Orientation.  Once you attend the Parent/Guardian orientation and sign your final paperwork, your child can start the program the following Monday.  You MUST attend orientation before your child can begin the program.

How does my child remain in program?

The program is currently funded through Oakland Fund for Children and Youth (OFCY) and the State After School Education and Safety Program (ASES) legislation which requires attendance accounting and that target numbers of students are served EVERY day if funding is to continue. Students must attend a minimum of 17.5 hours/week to be considered a full program participant.  It is important that the students enrolled in program attend daily and for the duration of the program.  Continual early release from program can result in the student being released from the program. Families with special situations need to discuss those situations with the Site Coordinator prior to enrolling the student in the program and sign an early release waiver.

This is NOT a drop-in program; enrolled students are expected to attend every day for the full duration of the program.  Students who are absent are expected to return with a note (if they were present for school) explaining their absence. Students without notes will receive an unexcused absence and a note can be sent to parent/guardian reminding them of the current attendance policies.  Over the course of programming, four or more consecutive absences without a note can result in the child being dropped from program.
