Higher Ground works closely with the school day teachers to make sure we are doing our absolute best in reaching each student. Our Afterschool programs are supported by a certified school teacher who acts as our Academic Liason between the work the students are mastering in the day time and together with the site's afterschool coordinator link the student's work to the afterschool program.
We took some time out to ask our teachers
the following question:
“How do Higher Ground after school programs benefit students? Families? And the overall school climate?”
Here is what they had to say:
"Higher Grounds has been such an amazingly positive addition to our New Highland Community. My students are provided a safe place where they are supported in their academics along with dancing, cooking, playing sports, and so much more. I have been most impressed with the staff each year. They show such a desire to learn the teaching strategies that we use in the classroom to make the connection between the regular school day and the extended day program. Our students are blessed to have a place to be after school where they are learning and where the staff truly cares about the whole child."

“Higher Ground teaches our students. . leadership skills, acting appropriately in the classroom and on the yard. Higher Ground helps us teach the children that the rules are the same across the board [also] Staff are committed to helping and go above and beyond the call of duty."
--Mr. Tremaine Moore

"Higher Ground has some great tutors helping kids with homework and academic skills. They also recognize that kids need to have fun so they make time for that too. I like that parent s can feel safe that their kids are in caring hand after-school."
--Mrs. Bernadette Breen

“The afterschool program has helped some of my students get better scores in their homework as opposed to the ones who are not in afterschool program. It also helps them to continue in the academic setting by not only engaging in homework and vocabulary, but also sports and enrichment activities.”
--Mrs. Michelle Ramos- Stokes

"Students are able to receive extra help and support on homework and other academic needs. It supports parents by providing them with a safe and educational place to go after-school."
